NK cell cancer immunotherapy via the Osaki Method

Background / Problem

Natural Killer (NK) cells are frontline immune cells that patrol the bloodstream to eliminate virus-infected and cancerous cells. In healthy people they make up roughly 5–10% of all white blood cells, and studies report that people with higher NK cell activity tend to have lower cancer incidence.

The key to therapy is NK cell function, not just count. Cells reinfused into the body must be in a functionally ready state, which depends heavily on the laboratory expansion method used.

Expansion Technology (Osaki Method)

NK cells can be expanded using feeder-cell-based or feeder-free methods. MEDEZE uses the feeder-free Osaki Method, developed by Dr. Junichi Masuyama of the New City Osaki Clinic in Japan, culturing cells in a proprietary medium within a patented closed system so that the NK cells are activated and immediately ready to work upon reinfusion.

Reported Outcomes

In Japan, Osaki-Method NK cells are used alongside standard treatment for pancreatic, colorectal, lung, and gastric cancer, and a reported case in Thailand involved a late-stage lung cancer patient unresponsive to chemotherapy whose condition improved progressively after treatment.
